Equity named top banking brand in Africa

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 23 – Equity Bank has been ranked the strongest banking brand in Africa, outperforming major lenders in markets such as South Africa and Nigeria.

According to the 2026 Brand Finance report, Equity scored a Brand Strength Index (BSI) of 93.9 out of 100, earning an elite AAA+ rating and placing it among the top 10 strongest banking brands globally.

South African lenders Capitec Bank and First National Bank followed in the regional rankings.

“Equity has extended its lead in the brand stakes, emerging as Africa’s strongest banking brand and Kenya’s most valuable brand in the latest Brand Finance benchmarks,” the bank said in a statement.

In terms of valuation, Brand Finance ranked Equity as Kenya’s most valuable brand at Sh71.6 billion, ahead of Safaricom, which was valued at Sh58.5 billion.

Brand Finance assesses over 5,000 of the world’s largest brands annually, evaluating brand strength, financial performance, and stakeholder perception.
