NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 5 – Del Monte Kenya has sought security services from G4S Kenya Limited after allegations of violence by its guards.
The collaboration follows recommendations from a recent Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) endorsing the outsourcing of security personnel as a best practice.
Del Monte Kenya aims to address criminal operations targeting its fields and stealing large volumes of pineapples.
Approximately 270 security professionals from G4S Kenya, equipped with extensive training and emphasizing ethical conduct and human rights awareness, will oversee security operations for Del Monte Kenya.
G4S Kenya will collaborate with Del Monte Kenya and local law enforcement to prevent theft and resolve conflicts, focusing on positive community engagement.
“Led by experienced G4S Kenya officers, our teams will work closely with Del Monte Kenya and local law enforcement when incidents of theft do happen,” Laurence Okelo, Managing Director of G4S Kenya, said.
“Positive, inclusive, and constructive community engagement is a central consideration, and we will work with local communities focusing on theft prevention, conflict resolution, and improving communications,” he added.
Del Monte Kenya reiterates its commitment to addressing security challenges, prioritizing safety and integrity.
Del Monte Kenya’s acting deputy managing director said that they are committed to addressing the effects of the coordinated criminal operations targeting their fields and stealing large volumes of pineapples.
“The safety and security of each individual within our company and the surrounding community are our top priority,” the MD said.
“We are actively working with G4S, local authorities, and the police to craft strategies aimed at responding to these challenges safely and effectively.”
