KISUMU, Kenya, Feb 22 – Chemelil Sugar Company has disbursed Sh7.9 million to cane transporters and cane harvesters for the week ending February 5, 2023.
While Sh6.5 million will be paid to cane transporters, the company’s interim managing director (MD), Jacqueline Kotonya, said Sh1.4 million will be for harvesters.
Payments to farmers, transporters, and harvesters will factor into arrears, she confirmed.
“During the course of this week ending 26th February, the company will pay farmers, cane transporters and harvesters’ outstanding payments for week ending 5th and 12th February 2023, including payment of their arrears,” said Kotonya.
However, she cautioned them against consuming unverified information with regard to payments.
Kotonya says fake information has been circulating in social media, giving the contrary position of the company with respect to the payments.
In a circular to media houses on Wednesday, Kotonya says the operations of the company are continuing without any hiccup while assuring stakeholders that all is well.
“We request our suppliers to continue supplying the factory with cane to sustain factory milling operations so as to maintain our sugar production levels and revenues to meet the expectations of our stakeholders,” she said.
Kotonya took over from Gabriel Nyangweso, the immediate former MD, who was ousted through a court ruling.
