NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept. 7 – Centum Investments Chief Executive James Mworia has been appointed the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF).
Mworia takes up the position today, September 7, 2026, following a competitive recruitment process.
The NIF Board said his immediate priorities will include setting up the fund’s organisation, systems and workforce, developing its institutional culture, mobilising co-investment capital and building a pipeline of infrastructure projects.
“The Board of the National Infrastructure Fund is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr James Mworia, MBS, as founding Chief Executive Officer, following a competitive recruitment process with effect from 7 September 2026,” the board said.
Mworia was among six people appointed to the NIF Board on July 9 by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.
The other board members are Fahima Ali Ahmed Zein, Christopher Kibui Maranga, Latoya Ouna, Lawrence Kibet and Mohammed Abdirahman Hassan.
The National Assembly approved the establishment of the NIF in March 2026. The fund is expected to mobilise nearly Sh5 trillion over the next decade to finance infrastructure projects.
The projects will include highways, railways, ports, agribusiness infrastructure and energy systems.
The fund will use both public and private sector financing, with money expected from government allocations, private investment, privatisation proceeds, grants and loans.
Unlike conventional government borrowing, the NIF is designed to use an investment-led model to finance infrastructure projects.
