NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 29 – Xiaomi Kenya has launched the REDMI Note 17 series, introducing three new smartphones to the local market, including the first REDMI Note Pro Max model.
The lineup comprises the REDMI Note 17, REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G and REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, with prices starting at Sh29,999 for the base model.
Xiaomi said the new series is designed around longer battery life, improved water and drop resistance and extended software support, targeting consumers looking for smartphones designed for longer use.
The launch comes as the REDMI Note series surpasses 500 million shipments globally, according to Xiaomi data as of May 31, 2026.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G is the top model in the new lineup and features a 10,000mAh battery, the largest battery Xiaomi says it has fitted in a smartphone. It supports 100W HyperCharge and up to 27W reverse charging.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G comes with an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery and 67W HyperCharge, while the REDMI Note 17 has a 7,700mAh battery and 45W turbo charging.
Xiaomi said the batteries are designed to retain at least 80 percent of their original capacity after 1,600 charging cycles, equivalent to more than six years of typical use under its internal testing conditions.
The Pro Max and Pro models also feature IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K dust and water resistance ratings. Xiaomi said the two models have undergone a two-metre, 72-hour water immersion test under specified laboratory conditions.
The Pro models also support an underwater camera mode and have been tested for drop resistance of up to three metres onto granite surfaces under SGS testing conditions.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and peak brightness of 3,500 nits.

The standard REDMI Note 17 comes with a larger 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1,800 nits.
Prices and launch offers
The REDMI Note 17 starts at Sh29,999, while the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G starts at Sh46,999. The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G starts at Sh59,999.
The REDMI Note 17 is available in Celestial Purple, Sky Teal and Black, while the Pro 5G comes in Sky Blue, Satin Orange, Purple and Black.
The Pro Max 5G is available in Cloud Blush, Green, Purple and Black.
As part of the launch offer running until October 10, buyers will receive additional products depending on the model purchased.
Customers buying the REDMI Note 17 or REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G will receive a Xiaomi Lamp valued at Sh3,700, while those buying the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G will receive a Xiaomi Toaster valued at Sh7,000.
All three models come with Xiaomi’s standard 24-month warranty plus an additional one-month warranty, as well as a two-year screen protection plan and three-year battery warranty under the launch offer.
Customers purchasing the REDMI Note 17 or REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G through OnFon instalment financing can pay a 10 percent deposit starting from Sh3,300, with daily payments from Sh160 during October.
Customers buying the devices at Safaricom shops will also receive 15GB of free data.
Performance and cameras
The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 Mobile Platform, while the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G uses the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 Mobile Platform.
The Pro Max supports up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while the Pro 5G offers up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, depending on the configuration.
The standard REDMI Note 17 uses the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 platform and is available in configurations of up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
The Pro Max 5G features a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front camera.
The Pro 5G has a 50MP OIS main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 16MP front camera, while the standard Note 17 features a 50MP main camera and a 16MP front camera.
The Pro models also support AI-powered features including AI Erase Pro, AI Image Enhancement, AI Beautify and AI Glare Removal, while the Pro Max additionally supports Xiaomi HyperAI features such as AI Writing, AI Interpreter and AI Speech Recognition.
Google Gemini and Circle to Search are available across the REDMI Note 17 series, subject to regional and software availability.
Xiaomi said all three models will receive up to six years of security updates. Selected models will also receive battery health support for up to six years.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G is additionally marketed with a six-year “like-new” software experience based on Xiaomi’s internal software ageing tests.
