NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 27 – Turkish Airlines has resumed direct flights between Istanbul and Mombasa after a five-year suspension, reopening a key route for Kenya’s coastal tourism and trade sectors.
The airline said the service resumed on October 26 and will operate three times a week, connecting Mombasa to over 320 global destinations through Istanbul.
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) confirmed that the inaugural flight landed at Moi International Airport, Mombasa, on Monday morning and was received with a water cannon salute.
Turkish Airlines suspended its Mombasa operations in 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic and later withdrew the route in 2023 due to regulatory hurdles.
The carrier, which first launched Mombasa flights in 2019, cited renewed demand from European and Middle Eastern travelers for its return.
