NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 20 – The completion of the Shimoni fishing port in Kwale County will see the plant handle 50,000 metric tonnes of fish every year, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has announced.
According to KPA, this will boost processing, exports, and value addition.
Currently, the port is 47 percent complete and is set to be completed later this year.
“Construction of Shimoni Port, the first fish port in the country with a throughput capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes annually,” KPA stated on X.
“Shimoni port will harness the potential of Blue Economy through enhancing fish production, processing, and value addition for the local and export market,” it added.
