NAIROBI, Kenya, May 19- The Kenya Revenue Authority’s (KRA) Customs department has published names of people who imported sex toys and underwear but failed to pay taxes for them.
The list in the latest Kenya Gazette also includes panty vibrators, dildos, used inner garments, sex creams, and handcuffs among others that will be destroyed if owners don’t pay for them.
They have been given until May 22 failure to which they will be disposed.
The products have been left uncollected by their owners from warehouses in Lodwar, Suam, Eldoret, Lokichoggio, and Nakuru.
On April 20, the taxman issued a 30-day notice to the owners of these products through Gazette Notice No. 5186, notifying them to collect their items.
“PURSUANT to the provisions of sections 42 and 248 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Eldoret, Nakuru, Lodwar, Lokichoggio and Suam within thirty (30) days of this notice, they will be treated as abandoned and will disposed of by destruction or otherwise disposed of in such manner as the Commissioner may direct on 22nd May, 2022,”read the gazette notice.
In addition to the aforementioned products, other items slated for disposal include cigarettes, military garments, toy guns, Lato milk, Guinness bottles, shisha products, drones, and sugar, among other items.
