NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 26 – Schneider Electric, a player in energy management and automation, has unveiled the Building Decarbonization Calculator, an online tool designed to assist building owners and operators in exploring a variety of Energy and Carbon Conservation Measures (ECCMs).
As the pressure to meet decarbonization targets intensifies, this tool enables users to evaluate and prioritize retrofit scenarios efficiently, helping them navigate the complexities of balancing cumulative costs and emissions through 2050 on their path to net zero.
With a dataset comprising nearly 500,000 building performance models covering diverse building types, sizes, and locations, the calculator allows users to assess the carbon and financial return on investment for ECCMs.
It also facilitates comparisons to New York City’s Local Law 97 fines and the Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor (CRREM) pathway.
“This innovative digital tool is designed to assist building owners and operators in reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and cutting operational costs, which will ultimately help owners accelerate action and increase the rate at which buildings are being retrofit, said Mike Kazmierczak, Global Vice President of Digital Energy Building at Schneider Electric.
The Building Decarbonization Calculator supports scenario planning through its rapid assessments, which utilize pre-loaded modeled data to enable quick evaluations of potential energy savings and emissions reductions based on industry-standard methodologies.
Users can assess various retrofit scenarios, providing key metrics like ROI while considering required upfront investments.
The calculator also includes estimations for non-compliance costs and ROI, starting with New York’s Local Law 97, allowing building owners to align their plans with regulatory requirements.
Additionally, it emphasizes the impact of selected ECCMs, assisting users in prioritizing their retrofit plans based on both carbon and financial metrics.
Its scalable functionality accommodates tailored scenarios for individual buildings or entire portfolios, supporting various sectors, including retail, hotels, hospitals, and offices.
