Sama partners with Homa Bay County to develop AI curriculum for vocational training

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 24 – Artificial Intelligence (AI) Sama has announced a partnership with Homa Bay County to develop a tailored AI curriculum for vocational training institutes across the region.

According to the partners, the collaboration aims to enhance local educational offerings and create a skilled workforce ready to contribute to the growing demands of the AI sector.

The initiative launched in Homabay aims to serve as the first testing ground for this AI curriculum.

As part of the partnership, students from the vocational training institutes will actively contribute to the operations of Sama’s delivery centers, which the company plans to expand throughout Kenya.

Sama’s goal is to double its workforce in the country, providing a significant boost to local employment.

Governor Gladys Wanga highlighted Kenya’s vast pool of talented youth capable of driving advancements in global AI development.

She drew parallels to the successful Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sectors in India and Poland, expressing optimism for Kenya’s potential in this arena.

“Homa Bay is an ideal investment destination for the BPO sector. We have established a special economic zone with necessary infrastructure, including reliable electricity, ready-to-use office spaces, and high-speed internet access,” she said.

The partnership will initially focus on creating a comprehensive AI curriculum for vocational institutes and establishing an AI value chain delivery center in Homa Bay.

This center is projected to employ approximately 350 young individuals under the Sama Impact program, offering valuable opportunities for local youth.

Annepeace Alwala, Vice President of Global Delivery at Sama, on her part, expressed excitement about the collaboration, noting Homa Bay County’s commitment to supporting the company as it seeks to extend its operations beyond Nairobi.

“We are excited about the potential possibilities of the partnership with Homa Bay County to create opportunities within the AI value chain.”
