Safaricom’s Ziidi MMF assets hit Sh2.85bn

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 21 – Safaricom’s Ziidi Money Market Fund (MMF) has achieved Sh2.85 billion in assets under management just a month after its launch, with over 450,000 users onboarded.

Ziidi MMF is a unit trust product allowing customers to earn daily interest by investing funds from their M-PESA wallets.

While there’s no maximum investment cap, the daily M-PESA transaction limit of Sh500,000 and per-transaction limit of Sh250,000 apply.

“Ziidi MMF is part of our efforts to diversify M-PESA beyond payments and promote financial wellness,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.

The fund is managed in partnership with Standard Investment Bank (SIB) and ALA Capital Limited.

SIB Founder James Wangunyu expressed optimism about delivering above-market returns and supporting financial inclusion aligned with Kenya’s bottom-up economic agenda.

Safaricom plans to develop more solutions to enhance customer financial health and security.
