NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 18 — Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has ordered the arrest of a school principal after eight students sustained injuries during a dawn attack by bandits in Baringo.
Matiangi accused the principal of failing to avert the attack by permitting school buses to operate beyond authorized hours.
He issued the orders amid a spotlight on failure by security agencies to tame insecurity in the volatile Kerio Valley after students from Tot High School returning from a school trip became the latest victims of insecurity in the region.

Speaking in Nairobi during the launch of 2021 national examinations period and issuance of security padlocks on Friday, Matiangi said that the school administrators were in clear violation of the stipulated policy.
Matiangi stated that there exists a government policy restricting travel of school buses beyond 6.30pm which was violated by the school administration.
“The attack we had in the school bus in Tot last night ought not to have happened in the first place because that school was in violation of government policy of moving school children beyond 6 o’clock at night,” he stated
The Interior CS said that the fact that the area of the incident is prone to banditry attacks should have informed more caution by the school administration.
Following the incident, security has been beefed in Baringo County to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.
Speaking to Capital News Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso however assured residents that adequate security personnel will be deployed to avert such incidents in the future.
