NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 16 – The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has allowed Kenya Airways (KQ) to operate flights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam after a ban on Monday.
TCAA, in a tit-for-tat measure, prohibited KQ from its airspace after Kenyan authorities denied Air Tanzania cargo traffic Rights, locking it out of cargo business in the country.
Yesterday, however, TCAA rescinded the decision after Kenya granted Air Tanzania the Fifth Freedom Traffic Right for all cargo services.
The opening up of cargo businesses in the country offers Air Tanzania an opportunity to expand its business opportunities in Kenya.
“This is to inform the Public that the aeronautical authorities of the Republic of Kenya have granted the Fifth Freedom Traffic Right to Air Tanzania Company Limited for all-cargo service as per the request of the United Republic of Tanzania, with effect from 16 January 2024,” TCAA Director General HAMZA S.Johari saif in a statement.
“Following this development, the aeronautical authorities of the United Republic of Tanzania hereby withdraw its Decision of 15 January 2024 and therefore approval for Kenya Airways to operate Third and Fourth Freedom Traffic Rights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, is hereby restored with immediate effect.”
