NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 26 – The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is keen on upholding quality and safety standards for agricultural products amid safety concerns.
KEBS says that it has intensified efforts to ensure that only certified, top-quality fertilizers are available for agricultural use on the market.
Some of the measures adopted to weed out inferior products include rigorous testing, vigilant monitoring, and collaboration with industry stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Through the above efforts, KEBS noted that it aims to prevent any recurrence of incidents involving substandard agricultural inputs.
“We are deeply committed to ensuring that farmers have access to safe and reliable agricultural products, especially during crucial planting seasons,” reads the statement in part.
“Through our stringent quality assurance protocols, we are taking decisive action on any suspicious products in the market.”
KEBS has also called upon farmers to remain vigilant and report any concerns regarding the quality of agricultural inputs to the relevant authorities.
It has also launched the ‘Wajibika Na KEBS’ campaign to encourage community members to actively participate in safeguarding product quality.
As part of the campaign, farmers are urged to verify the authenticity of agricultural products by checking for the S-Mark permit.
This can be done by sending the code underneath the S-Mark to 20023 or the ISM Mark to 20023 to receive product manufacturing details.
Any discrepancies or suspicions regarding product authenticity should be reported immediately to KEBS through their toll-free number during official working hours.
The campaign underscores the importance of collaboration between regulatory authorities and the community in ensuring a secure and dependable
marketplace for agricultural inputs.
