NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 23 – The examination results of 441 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates have been cancelled due to various irregularities.
The announcement was made by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha who stated that there will be no mercy for those involved in the malpractices.
“There were 441 cases reported in the 2021 KCSE Examination and one case of a centre with all the results withheld. I wish to categorically state that KNEC will not have any mercy on examination offenders who must be dealt with decisively. Consequently, examination results of all the 441 cases have been cancelled
He indicated that the offenses included having mobile phones, access to unauthorized materials and impersonation.
“Unauthorized materials 203, Mobile phones 223, Impersonation 8, Collusion 6 and causing disturbance at examination room where I think the student almost hit the teacher 1,” said Magoha.
Jeriel Ndeda Obura from Mangu High School emerged the top student after getting a mean score of 87.167.
He was followed by Mukuha Timothy Kamau of Alliance High School who scored a mean score of 87.139.
Job Ngara from Mang’u High School came in third after posting a mean score of 87.116.
In the results, Magoha noted that 11 subjects recorded a significant improvement in performance, compared to 19 subjects that recorded a significant improvement in performance in 2020.
“This shows a decline in performance in 2021. There was no significant change in performance in seven of the subjects offered during the 2021 KCSE examination,” he said.
A total of 1,138 candidates scored a Mean Grade of A plain.
CS Magoha noted that of those, 349 were girls while 789 were boys.
