South East Technological University (SETU) in Ireland, is set to revolutionize education with the introduction of a bachelor’s degree in content creation and social media starting in September 2024.
The program, described as “comprehensive,” encompasses courses in creative video, celebrity studies, psychology, data analytics, podcasting, and valuable work experience. This initiative comes as a response to the burgeoning global influencer market, currently valued at an impressive $21 billion.

“The choice is comprehensive and will enable you to take on the digital world,” notes SETU, emphasizing the program’s goal to prepare students with the tools needed to navigate the evolving landscape of digital influence. Eleanor O’Leary, the program’s director, highlights the unique skill set required for success in this dynamic field, drawing from media, PR, and marketing expertise while carving out a distinct space for itself.
A notable inclusion in the curriculum is the course on crisis management, acknowledging the heightened impact of critical situations in the age of rapid social media dissemination. The degree promises to open doors to a range of careers, including content creation, writing, journalism, communications, and more.
SETU was established in May 2022. Applications for this groundbreaking program will be accepted starting November 2023, marking a significant leap in preparing students for the digital era.
