Former CJ Mutunga appointed MUHURI board chair

Nairobi,Kenya, Mar 22-Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) has elected former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga as the chairperson of its Board of Directors.

Mutunga, takes over from Khelef Khalifa.

MUHURI  said in a statement that Mutunga’s human rights background will be beneficial to the rights group.

“He(Mutunga) brings an immense wealth of experience especially in the civil society and human rights sectors,” MUHURI said in a notice published in local dailies

MUHURI said that Mutunga’s impressive track record of defending the constitution and the rule of law will advance the organisation’s goal of averting impunity and boosting constitutionalism in Kenya.

Mutunga joined MUHURI as a board member in 2021.

He served as Chief Justice from 2011 to 2016.
