NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 28 – The 36-day nationwide strike by clinical officers has officially ended after the Council of Governors (CoG) and the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) signed a Return-to-Work Formula.
Following the agreement, all KUCO members are required to resume duty immediately, and not later than 24 hours from the time of signing.
The prolonged industrial action had significantly disrupted healthcare services in public health facilities across the country, with patients forced to seek alternative care or endure delays.
While details of the agreement are yet to be fully disclosed, the signing of the return-to-work formula signals a major breakthrough in negotiations between county governments and clinical officers.
The Council of Governors and KUCO are expected to issue further communication outlining the implementation framework and timelines for outstanding issues.
The end of the strike is expected to restore critical healthcare services in counties and ease pressure on hospitals that have been operating with reduced staff during the strike period.
