NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 4 – CFAO Mobility Kenya has launched the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux, with prices starting at Sh7.87 million, targeting businesses and fleet operators amid rising demand for commercial vehicles.
The new pickup, which is assembled locally, will initially be available in a 2.8-litre double-cab automatic transmission in two specifications, with the higher-end version retailing at Sh10.84 million.
The launch comes as Kenya’s new vehicle market expands, with industry data cited by CFAO showing sales rising 24.8 percent to 10,944 units between January and August 2026.
Pick-up sales recorded stronger growth, increasing 52.6 percent to 2,949 units over the same period, reflecting demand for vehicles used in commercial transportation, construction, agriculture and other business activities.
CFAO said its Hilux sales grew by more than 20 percent to 850 units during the eight-month period, underscoring the model’s position in Kenya’s double-cab pickup segment.
The ninth-generation model retains the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine, producing 150kW and 500Nm of torque, with a claimed fuel efficiency of 12 kilometers per litre.
The vehicle has a payload capacity of about one tonne and a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms; features aimed at businesses requiring vehicles for transporting goods and equipment.
“The Hilux has earned the trust of generations of Kenyan customers because it has consistently delivered what they need to get the job done.
“Eight generations on, the New Shujaa is our investment in the next chapter of Kenyan enterprise: tropicalized, assembled here by Kenyans, and engineered to give our customers greater efficiency and unrivalled Quality, Durability and Reliability,” said CFAO Mobility Kenya Managing Director Arvinder Reel.
CFAO reintroduced local assembly of the Hilux in 2019, with the latest model adapted for local operating conditions.
The launch also comes as manufacturers and vehicle distributors seek to benefit from growing demand for locally assembled vehicles, although the higher purchase price could remain a consideration for small businesses and individual buyers.
The company plans to introduce 2.4-litre and single-cab versions in 2027, expanding the range to cover different commercial requirements.
