NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 30 – Online taxi provider Bolt says its services are continuing uninterrupted in the country despite the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) failing to renew its operating license.
In a statement to newsrooms, Bolt maintains that their operating license remains valid, assuring their customers of seamless operations.
”Bolt would like to clarify that our operations are ongoing, uninterrupted, and our existing license remains legally valid. We want to reassure all customers on our platform that our services are still accessible nationwide, and we are committed to providing drivers with earning opportunities and affordable services to everyone,“ read the statement by the taxi provider.
It has cited the NTSA Act, under which it gives the company leeway to operate.
”According to Section 32(4) of the NTSA Act, we are permitted to continue operating until the license application process is officially determined,” the Estonian-based firm said.
“The NTSA Act states that If on the date of the expiration of a license proceedings are pending before the Authority on an application by the licensee for the grant to him of a new license, the existing license shall continue in force until the application is determined,” it continued.
Recently, the ride-hailing platform revealed that it is in the process of renewing its license with the regulator.
NTSA last week declined to renew Bolt’s operating license in Kenya until numerous complaints from drivers, including booking fees and illegal commission charges, were ironed out.
