NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 – Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenAI have announced a $38 billion multi-year partnership that will see OpenAI run its artificial intelligence (AI) workloads on AWS’s cloud infrastructure.
The seven-year agreement gives OpenAI access to hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs and scalable compute capacity of up to tens of millions of CPUs to train and deploy advanced generative AI systems such as ChatGPT.
“Scaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable compute. Our partnership with AWS strengthens the broad compute ecosystem that will power this next era,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
AWS Chief Executive Matt Garman said the deal demonstrates AWS’s unique ability to deliver performance, scale, and security for demanding AI workloads.
The partnership builds on earlier collaborations that made OpenAI models available through Amazon Bedrock for enterprise customers worldwide.
