NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 – All Nairobi County Executive Committee Members have signed performance contracts committing to deliver the highest possible quality of services and projects implementation within agreeable timelines.
Governor Johnson Sakaja who oversaw the exercise on Thursday said performance management will be an integral part of his administration so as to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services to Nairobi residents.
He said the first evaluation exercise will be done after six months.
“Every sector has its set targets and specific goals. For instance the Environment people must ensure by that time they have awarded the Dandora waste contract, the sports team have to deliver three stadiums, we have the bursary and the school feeding program. Otherwise you can just sit and think work is going and yet there is nothing happening. So basically that’s the purpose of this exercise,” Sakaja stated.
Sakaja said the performance contracts signing will be cascaded downwards to Chief Officers and Directors while other officers upto the lowest in rank will sign performance appraisals.
The County Chief further said that performing CECs would be rewarded, while failure will have consequences.
“If anyone does not meet their targets they have to explain it. Those who will do the best will be rewarded but we shall sanction those who don’t because it means they can’t deliver in their dockets,” he said.
He said performance management will align the workforce, resources and systems while also inculcating self drive at the workplace.
