NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 30 – Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has reassured Nairobi residents that essential health services at the level 5 referral hospital remain fully operational despite the ongoing doctors’ strike in Kenya 2026.
During a media tour of the facility, hospital management emphasized that patient care and emergency health services in Nairobi continue without disruption, supported by contingency staffing arrangements and strengthened clinical oversight.
The hospital currently handles over 1,500 patients daily, maintaining healthcare continuity in Nairobi even during industrial action.
Speaking during the tour, Hospital CEO Frederick Obwanda highlighted the hospital’s focus on ensuring that residents receive timely and safe medical attention.
“Our priority is to make sure patients are not affected. Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has systems in place to deploy additional qualified medical professionals when needed, ensuring uninterrupted medical services in Nairobi as the strike issues are being resolved,” he said.
To further streamline services, the hospital has enhanced patient administration processes, including on-site Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, enabling patients to access care without delays related to payment verification.
“Previously, billing challenges delayed treatment. Integrating SHA registration at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital removes this barrier, supporting seamless patient care and healthcare continuity in Nairobi,” Obwanda noted.
In response to growing demand in the densely populated Eastlands area, the hospital is expanding its physical capacity with a new 400-bed wing at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.
Once completed within the year, the new facility is expected to reduce congestion, improve patient flow, and enhance emergency and referral services.
The hospital management confirmed that all medical personnel engaged are fully qualified and professionally registered, following strict verification procedures to safeguard patient safety.
