KISUMU, Kenya Apr 3 – Teachers affiliated to the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Kenya National Union of Teachers) are today participating in a key electoral exercise at Tom Mboya Labour College, where the union’s national officials are being elected.
The polls have attracted members from across the country, many of whom arrived early and queued patiently to cast their votes in what is considered a significant moment for the union’s leadership transition.
Out of the eleven available national positions, ten have already been secured unopposed, pointing to either broad consensus among members or a lack of challengers for those seats.
This leaves only one competitive race — the position of Assistant Secretary General — which has become the focal point of today’s election.
Long queues were witnessed at the venue since early morning, reflecting strong participation and interest among KNUT members.
Despite the high turnout, the voting process has remained calm and orderly, with election officials guiding members through the exercise to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Security has also been reinforced at the college, with officers deployed to maintain order throughout the election period. The measures are aimed at ensuring a smooth and peaceful process.
Attention now shifts to the outcome of the Assistant Secretary General contest, which is expected to be the highlight of the elections and could shape the direction of the union’s next leadership team.
