NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 5- President William Ruto has heightened the diplomatic ties between Kenya and Poland by signing two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with visiting President Andrzej Duda.
The MOUs signed on Monday, centered on Agricultural Cooperation and the Tax Solidarity Programme and are poised to foster deeper collaboration between the two nations and their people.
President Ruto emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of these agreements.
He underscored that these MOUs would not only solidify existing partnerships but also create fresh opportunities for cooperation across various sectors. President Ruto also hinted at the possibility of additional MOUs in the near future, further bolstering Kenya-Poland relations.
One of the key areas of cooperation highlighted by President Ruto is agriculture and food security. The two nations will join forces to address the growing demand for wheat and grain products in Kenya. This collaboration is expected to bridge the gap and ensure food security for Kenyan citizens.
President Ruto also extended an invitation to Poland to explore the potential of using Mombasa and Lamu ports as logistical hubs for exporting various products, including grains, to the wider region and beyond. Kenya’s strategic location and possession of the largest seaports in the region make it an attractive gateway to the East African Community market.
Discussions between the two leaders included the prospect of establishing a Labour Mobility Framework. This initiative aims to create more employment opportunities for highly skilled young labour in Poland while simultaneously addressing labor shortages in the country.
President Duda’s official visit to Kenya is a testament to the growing diplomatic relations between the two nations.
His arrival was marked by a warm reception at State House Nairobi, where he received a 21-gun salute and inspected a guard of honor before engaging in crucial talks with President William Ruto.
President Duda’s visit is not limited to Kenya alone; it will be followed by state visits to the Republic of Rwanda and the United Republic of Tanzania.
This signifies Poland’s strong commitment to enhancing political, economic, and military cooperation with African countries. It is also an opportunity to officially inaugurate the Polish embassy in Rwanda, marking another milestone in strengthening diplomatic ties between Poland and African nations.
