They say music acts as a time capsule, a time machine and rightfully so. Every song from the past that you listen to, evokes feelings of nostalgia through reminders of certain periods of life, places or people. That sound takes you back, way back to a specific time in your life that you loved.

On Friday 13th October 2023, die-hard old school music lovers gathered at the Sk8city Nairobi for Soul Train, a memory lane to the 70s, and 80s. As the clock struck 7:00 PM, the doors opened, and a diverse group of music lovers streamed in, dressed in their finest 70s disco style, with roller skates on their feet ready to jam out to disco classics spanning decades of music.

Nothing brings people together like music. As the night progressed, the music enthusiasts swayed to the sweet sounds of legendary musicians like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and Aretha Franklin and so much more. Old friends and new acquaintances bonded over shared memories of songs that had marked important moments in their lives.
The fashion was a mesmerizing tapestry of bold and vibrant styles that celebrated the music era. On the dance floor, disco queens and funk kings donned outfits that exuded confidence and charisma and we couldn’t help but fall in love with the style. From the high-waisted, wide-legged trousers, paired with colorful silk shirts and oversized collars on the men, to the sequined halter tops, wrap dresses that flowed with every twirl, and jumpsuits on the women.

Them mushrooms and Bensoul performed live, bringing the house down with various hits that got everyone on the dance floor, showing off their best dance moves. Soul Train was a nostalgic journey all rolled into one enchanting evening, a night carrying on the legacy of timeless tunes that brought generations together.
