NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 24 – President William Ruto has urged the newly sworn-in Commissioner General of Prisons, Patrick Aranduh, to accelerate decent housing programs for officers to boost their morale.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Statehouse, Nairobi, on Wednesday, Ruto assured that Aranduh will spearhead the necessary reforms needed in the Prisons Service, including the housing program targeting to provide decent houses for prison officers across the country.
“I want to pledge and commit my support and entire government to you and the prisons service as you undertake the great transformation that we want of the Prisons service. As you are aware we are undertaking a huge program on ensuring that our prisons service has decent housing,” he said.
Ruto stated that the Prisons Service will be collaboratively working with the state department on housing in delivering on the project.
The Prisons Service will also be part of the government’s tree planting initiative targeting to combat adverse effects of climate change.
“As we are all aware there is a big program that is being undertaken by the prisons on tree planting I will be very keen to see what the service will contribute to this,” he added.
Aranduh was sworn in as the new Commissioner General of Prisons, replacing Brigadier John Warioba, who is proceeding on terminal leave pending the end of his tenure of office.
“My congratulations to you Commissioner General Mwiti for this very well-deserved appointment as the commissioner general in a career that has seen you put many years of your career behind the prison service. The prison service is looking forward to your leadership,” he said.
Commissioner Aranduh was appointed by President Ruto following the official resignation of Japhet Koome as the Inspector General of the National Police Service in order to facilitate smooth transition within the top leadership of both the National Police Service (NPS) and Kenya Prisons Service (KPS).
