DODOMA, Tanzania, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) — The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has agreed to provide 606.9 million U.S. dollars in grants to help Tanzania fight the epidemics, the Tanzanian Finance Ministry has said.
Grant agreements were signed in Dodoma, the Tanzanian capital, on Tuesday by Minister of Finance Mwigulu Nchemba, and Linden Morrison, head of the Global Fund’s High Impact Africa II Department, according to a ministry statement late Tuesday.
Three-fourths of the grants will be used to strengthen preventive measures against HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis, Minister of Health Ummy Mwalimu said, adding that the funding will also be used to provide antiretroviral treatment for 1.7 million HIV/AIDS patients.
