NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 17 — The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has been appointed as Kenya’s official issuer of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC(E)), marking a significant step in the country’s green energy journey.
The International Tracking Standard Foundation (I-TRACK) Board granted EPRA the mandate to verify electricity generation from renewable sources such as geothermal, solar, and wind.
This verification ensures that certified energy producers meet global standards for eco-friendly operations, enhancing their appeal to investors focused on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.
EPRA Director-General Daniel Kiptoo hailed the appointment, stating it reinforces Kenya’s commitment to achieving full renewable and sustainable energy transition by 2030.
“This milestone affirms our role in accelerating Kenya’s green energy ambitions and bolsters the country’s position as a leader in renewable energy in Africa,” Kiptoo said.
With the certification, Kenyan energy producers can access international renewable energy markets, attracting more investment while contributing to global climate goals.
