OCT 25 – Dettol has teamed up with the Ministry of Health to promote hand hygiene as part of Kenya’s Global Handwashing Day celebrations on October 15.
The event, themed “Why Are Clean Hands Still Important?”, was held at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Manza Campus in Machakos County.
At the celebration, Dettol provided Dettol Original Antibacterial Soap for educational sessions on proper handwashing techniques, a part of the Epuka Uchafu Initiative led by both the county and national governments.
Activities also included a community cleanup at Manza Market and a tree-planting exercise.
“Dettol is dedicated to promoting hand hygiene across Kenya, offering quality hygiene products that help protect against germs and support Kenyans’ health and well-being,” said Margaret Ngea, Senior Brand Manager, Dettol Reckitt Kenya.
“Handwashing with soap is a simple yet crucial way to prevent diseases and save lives. Global Handwashing Day underscores the vital role of hand hygiene in public health.”
Global Handwashing Day, observed annually on October 15, aims to raise awareness of the importance of handwashing with soap as a cost-effective method to prevent illness.
However, data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics shows that only 51% of Kenyans have access to handwashing facilities with soap and water at home.
