NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 25 – Cummins C&G has opened a new engine rebuild centre in Nairobi, in a move aimed at strengthening service and maintenance of Cummins engines and power equipment across East Africa.
The facility, located along Lusaka Road, is fitted with a dynamometer test system designed to evaluate generator performance under simulated working conditions.
According to the company, the system measures output power, voltage and frequency stability, fuel efficiency, cooling performance, and exhaust emissions.
“Dyno testing verifies rated capacity, ensures genset reliability and safety, validates designs and repairs, and detects issues such as overheating, unstable voltage, poor fuel efficiency, and mechanical faults at an early stage. This ensures compliance with standards, builds customer confidence, and reduces the risk of field failure by identifying defects before deployment,” said Erick Sangoro, Managing Director of Cummins C&G.
Beyond generator repairs, the centre will also handle complete engine rebuilds, restoring worn-out or damaged engines to near-new condition, and will serve as a technical training hub for customers.
Car & General CEO Vijay Gidoomal emphasized the partnership’s strengths, citing Cummins’ global technical expertise and C&G’s local market knowledge.

Cummins C&G, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Car & General, has been the authorized Cummins distributor in East Africa since 2006.
The company also distributes motorcycles, three-wheelers, tractors, forklifts, generators, and construction equipment across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and Seychelles.
