NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 23 – Kenyan banks increased the number of employees in clerical roles by 21.3 per cent to 14,757 in 2025, up from 12,169 a year earlier, according to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).
Clerical roles include bank tellers, cashiers, credit clerks and customer service assistants, among others.
The number of employees in secretarial and other staff roles also increased by 4.3 per cent to 5,462 during the year.
The increase came as banks expanded their branch networks, creating demand for clerical and other support staff.
CBK data shows total banking sector employment rose by 2,284, or 5.9 per cent, to 41,124 in December 2025 from 38,840 in December 2024.
“Clerical, and Secretarial and other staff cadres increased by 2,588 and 223 respectively. Medium peer group banks had the largest increase in the total number of staff,” CBK said.
Some banks expanded their branch networks during the year, including Family Bank and I&M Bank.
