NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 2 – Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit, and Justus Abonyo have taken office as Commissioners in the electoral agency during a ceremony presided by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The swearing at the Supreme Court building on Thursday ended a 3-year period during which the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) suffered a quorum hitch triggered by the exit of four commissioners.
IEBC Vice Chairperson Consolata Nkatha, commissioners Paul Kurgat, Margaret Mwachanya and Roselyn Akombe resigned after the 2017 General Election.
President Uhuru Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta gazetted the appointment of the four on Wednesday after the National Assembly approved their nomination.
The four were chosen among 36 Kenyans that were interviewed to fill the positions vacant at IEBC.
They will join Chairperson Wafula Chebukati and commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu in office.
