NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 – Three suspects have been charged with the offence of publication of false information contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act, No. 5 of 2018.
Arjun Chauhan Surya, Aftab Afzal Abass and Ajmal Amershi Karim however denied the charges and were freed on a Sh200,000 bond and sureties of similar amount.
The suspects were also allowed an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000 each and two contact persons.
They were arraigned before the Chief Magistrates Court No. 5 at Milimani Law Court.
The three suspects were apprehended after officers from the Directorate of Criminal investigations (DCI) conducted an operation within Mombasa, Kitengela and Nairobi to track the trio.
The DCI said that the suspects had gone into hiding after committing the offence which was reported by the complainant at Parklands Police Station.
The case will be mentioned on February 12, 2024.
