OGO-Law, Managing Partner win top environmental law awards in Africa

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 8 – Kenyan environmental and natural resources law firm OGO-Law, The Greenbrief Advocates, has won two major honours at the 3rd Annual Legal Era Africa Law Awards 2025–26 held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Nairobi-based firm was named Environment, Energy & Natural Resources – Law Firm of the Year, while its Managing Partner, Elizabeth Gitari-Mitaru, received the Leading Environment Lawyer of the Year award.

The dual recognition places OGO-Law among a select group of African firms recognised at both the institutional and individual levels during this year’s awards.

The Legal Era Africa Law Awards, organised by Legal Era – Legal Media Group, recognise outstanding achievement, innovation and leadership by law firms, in-house legal teams and legal professionals across the continent. Winners are selected by an independent jury comprising members of the legal and business community.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Managing Partner Elizabeth Gitari-Mitaru said the recognition reflected the growing influence of environmental and natural resources law practice in East Africa.

“This recognition reflects the growing sophistication and ambition of environmental and natural resources law practice across East Africa. We have always believed that rigorous legal advocacy is one of the most powerful tools available to protect our environment and shape equitable energy and resources policy. To be recognised at a pan-African level affirms that the work being done here in Nairobi is resonating far beyond our borders,” she said.

The recognition comes as environmental, climate and natural resources law continues to gain prominence across Africa, with governments, investors and communities increasingly navigating issues around the energy transition, climate regulation and sustainable resource governance.
